Healing With WOODS
Collaboration with Breast Cancer Foundation
22 Apr 24

Twice a month from April onwards, WOODS is offering group art therapy to the members of the Breast Cancer Foundation, a leading advocate for breast cancer awareness and support. This collaboration aims to provide emotional support to individuals affected by breast cancer, enriching their healing journey with innovative art therapy interventions.

We believe that this partnership will not only enhance the quality of support available but also highlight the importance of mental health care in the comprehensive treatment of breast cancer. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment where individuals can explore art therapy as a powerful tool for healing and resilience. During the bi-monthly group art therapy sessions, participating members can look forward to :

Expression of emotions
Art therapy provides a unique and creative outlet for expressing feelings that may be difficult to verbalize. In a group setting, participants can explore different mediums of art to express their emotions, ranging from fear and anger to hope and resilience, without the need for words.

Sense of belonging
Group art therapy sessions create a sense of community among participants. Individuals come together with others who are facing similar challenges, allowing them to feel less isolated in their journey. This community-building aspect can offer emotional support and encourage sharing of personal experiences, which can be profoundly therapeutic.

Learning Coping Skills
Through guided art-making processes, participants learn coping skills that can help manage stress and anxiety. The therapist often introduce techniques that can be used outside the therapy session, providing participants with tools to help manage emotional states in everyday life.

Self-Reflection
Engaging in art therapy enables individuals to reflect on their personal experiences and feelings. This reflection can promote a better understanding of one's emotions and behaviors, leading to greater self-awareness and insight. In a group setting, seeing others' artistic expressions can also offer new perspectives and deepen one's own introspection.

Empathy and Understanding
As members share their artwork and the stories behind them, it fosters empathy and mutual understanding within the group. This can strengthen the bonds between participants, enhancing the support network each person has.

A Safe Space
Group art therapy sessions offer a safe and confidential environment where participants can feel secure in expressing themselves. This safety can foster a sense of trust and openness, encouraging participants to delve deeper into their therapeutic journey.

Reduction in Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety
Art therapy has been shown to help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. In a group context, the combination of artistic expression and social support can be particularly effective in improving mood and reducing feelings of distress.

By participating in group art therapy, members of the Breast Cancer Foundation can experience a supportive and enriching environment that not only aids in managing the emotional aspects of their condition but also enhances their overall well-being. This collaborative approach to healing highlights the power of creativity and community in the face of adversity.
