My Story

Hello, I’m Angel, the founder of WOODS Counselling & Art Therapy.

WOODS grew out of a longstanding interest in people, how we cope with change, how we make sense of difficult experiences, and how we find our way forward when life no longer feels quite as familiar as before.

Over the years, my professional journey has taken me across the government and social sectors, including leadership, community work and advocacy. These experiences have deepened my appreciation of how valuable it can be to have spaces where people can pause, reflect, connect and explore what is happening within themselves.

Today, I am particularly interested in supporting people through life transitions. These may arise from changes in relationships, family roles, work, caregiving, loss, ageing, identity or other significant turning points. At times, there may not even be one defining event. There may simply be a sense of feeling unsettled, stuck, disconnected or uncertain about what comes next.

WOODS has gradually evolved towards creating group art therapy experiences and self-care workshops that encourage reflection, creativity and connection. I believe that taking time to understand ourselves does not have to begin only in times of crisis. It can also be part of how we care for ourselves, make sense of change and grow through different seasons of life.

Art therapy offers a meaningful way of doing this. Sometimes our experiences are difficult to capture fully in words. Through images, colours, symbols and creative expression, participants may discover thoughts, feelings and perspectives that are not always easy to articulate. No artistic ability is required, as the process is about exploration rather than artistic outcome.

Group settings can also offer something uniquely valuable. While each person’s experience remains their own, being in a shared reflective space can create a sense of connection, perspective and recognition that we are not always alone in what we are going through.

WOODS is a social endeavour grounded in my belief that opportunities for reflection, emotional well-being and self-care should feel accessible and relevant to people from all walks of life. Through creative workshops, group experiences and community-based programmes, I hope to offer spaces that are thoughtful, engaging and gently restorative.

While much of my earlier community work centred on supporting women and girls, WOODS welcomes everyone.  At its heart, WOODS is a space for people navigating change and the many transitions that life brings. It is a place to pause, reconnect with ourselves, explore through creativity and consider how we would like to move forward.
